Cookie Policy
What we store on your device, and why.
Last updated 21 September 2026
In short
Our public website, in-depth.io, sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Our platform, used by signed-in clients at app.in-depth.io and at client addresses under in-depth.io, uses a small number of cookies and browser storage so that sign-in works and so that we can understand how the product is used. This policy explains both.
This policy is published by IN DEPTH INTELLIGENCE LTD ("IN DEPTH", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17342348. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.
What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit. Your browser sends it back on later visits, so the site can remember things such as the fact that you are signed in.
Similar technologies do the same kind of job in other ways. The most common is browser storage (sometimes called local storage or session storage), which lets a site keep small amounts of information inside your browser. When we say "cookies" in this policy we mean cookies and these similar technologies together.
The law in the UK (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, known as PECR) and in the EU says a site may only store or read information on your device if that is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for or if you have given your consent. Where personal data is involved, the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR also apply.
The public website (in-depth.io)
The public website sets no cookies of any kind and uses no browser storage. In particular:
- there is no advertising and there are no social media trackers;
- there is no embedded third-party video;
- our fonts are hosted by us, so your browser makes no requests to a third-party font service.
How our website analytics work
We use a privacy-focused analytics service hosted in the EU (Frankfurt) to understand how the site is used so that we can improve it. On the public website it runs without cookies and without browser storage: nothing is stored on or read back from your device. So that we can see how a visit moves from page to page, the analytics service works out a one-way code on its own server from your IP address and browser details together with a secret value that changes every day. The code cannot be turned back into your IP address, it is not stored on your device, and because the secret changes daily we cannot recognise you from one day to the next.
It records page views, when you leave a page, clicks on the page, your browser and device type and the page that referred you. It does not work out your location, it does not build a profile of you and it does not record your session. It is switched off on our preview addresses. Our Privacy Policy explains the legal basis for this and how long we keep the data.
Why there is no cookie banner
A cookie banner exists to ask your permission before a site stores non-essential information on your device. Our public website stores nothing on your device at all, essential or otherwise, so there is nothing to ask permission for. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before anything non-essential is stored.
The platform (app.in-depth.io and client addresses)
The platform is used only by people at organisations we have admitted, once they have signed in. It uses two kinds of cookies and browser storage.
Strictly necessary sign-in cookies
When you sign in, the platform sets session cookies on the platform address so that it knows who you are as you move between pages and so that your account stays secure. The platform cannot work without them, so the law does not require consent for them. If you block them, you will not be able to sign in.
Product analytics cookies and browser storage
The platform uses the same EU analytics service as our website, but here it sets first-party cookies and uses browser storage. It identifies you by your user id, with your email address attached as a property, so that we can understand how the product is used and catch errors. These are not strictly necessary for the platform to work. If you would rather we did not use them for you, write to us at apply@in-depth.io or block them in your browser as described below. Blocking them will not stop you signing in.
For the content your organisation puts into or creates on the platform, your organisation's access agreement with us applies. Our Privacy Policy explains the difference.
The cookies and storage we use
| Where | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| in-depth.io (public website) | None | No cookies or browser storage are used. Analytics count visits with a daily-changing code worked out on the analytics server. | Not applicable |
| app.in-depth.io and client addresses | Strictly necessary first-party session cookies | Keeping you signed in and your account secure | Session |
| app.in-depth.io and client addresses | First-party analytics cookies | Understanding how the product is used and catching errors | Up to 1 year |
| app.in-depth.io and client addresses | First-party browser storage for analytics | Understanding how the product is used and catching errors | Up to 1 year |
"First-party" means the cookie or storage belongs to our own address, not to another company's site.
How to control cookies in your browser
Every modern browser lets you see the cookies and storage a site has set, delete them and block them, either for all sites or for particular ones. You will usually find these options in your browser's settings under privacy or site data. Your browser's help pages will explain the steps for your version.
You can also use a private or incognito window, which normally clears cookies and storage when you close it. Remember that blocking all cookies for the platform address will stop sign-in from working. Blocking cookies makes no difference to the public website, because it sets none.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy if the way we use cookies changes. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we ever start storing anything non-essential on your device from the public website, we will ask for your consent first.
